Not all Nonprofits Are Created Equal (But all Face Similar Challenges)

Last week in our series, 4 Lessons from the Trenches to Prepare for Giving Season, we talked about how to harness emotions in your year-end appeals. This week, we’ll be talking about overcoming the challenges of time and capacity to reach your fundraising goals.

Each nonprofit we served that day in Baltimore had different challenges when it came to fundraising. Some were already well versed and quite diversified while others were new to individual giving. Some were better funded through grants and fees for service while others needed a fresh boost of creativity to market themselves more effectively.

And while these nonprofits had varied levels of challenges, and even organizational sizes, what they all had in common was a capacity constraint. For example, when we worked with the University of Maryland, Baltimore that day, which would be considered pretty well resourced, we realized they still need help reaching new donors and developing new and creative campaigns for individual giving. Figuring out how to do that within their current level of capacity posed a further challenge. So what can organizations of all sizes do to combat this?

Here are a few ideas:

  1. Branch out into the community, but be specific. Your community isn’t always your physical neighborhood, as we learned in lesson one. You biggest supporters are going to have an emotional connection to your cause. Sponsoring or attending an event that is related to your cause area, sending out advertisements on social media to a targeted group, and mining your friends and associates for ideas are good places to start.
  2. Create an emotionally-compelling peer-to-peer campaign to mobilize your network.
  3. Ask someone who has experience, like a professional fundraising coach, to take a look at what you’ve been doing and provide some educated feedback.
  4. Look into the idea of pro-bono volunteers, especially when there’s a gap in your staff experience. Organizations like Taproot can help with this.
  5. If lack of time is your primary issue, consider investing in systems that reduce manual tasks and help you reach the right donors, faster.

That’s all for now. Next week, we’ll talk about what constitutes the right mix of funding sources, why individual giving should be part of it, and how to create a sustainable fundraising program to bolster your success in preparation for year-end.

    *******************************************************************************

    Most Respected Madam,

A very good email ( 6 Sentences ) [email protected].

    1) Why you are contacting them ?

For Freely Supporting The Poverty People Fund Program-me which
helps promote independent living. Majority of the poverty are unskilled
laborers and unable to stand independently on their own feet. Instead of

providing for them jobs and opening large Canteens are of baseless
calculations. On account I am providing for them with my best selected
criteria mentioned in Para 3 which will never bring sufferings.into the

circle. Also I researched New Innovative Solutions which gives ” EQUAL

FINANCE SHARING ” for all poverty around the world and here Round

Table Conference a must in ” The Giving Pledge ” or Federal Gov, USA.

    2) Who you are?

I am S/o War Veteran and became deaf at the age of 17 after Tonsil
Operation. My childhood dreams was to become a Doctor which
scattered. Now I promise to give you my highest appreciation in doing
the generosity in South India or plus the whole world if necessary. My

late father served for the British Indian Army and faced the most horrific

Second World War in Malaysia against the Japanese Army in history.
He always admires the Britishers and Americans then survived without
” Monthly Pension ” and expired on 15/3/1994 as bravest hero in Kerala
    State, South India.

    3) What your cause is?

Actually this is good for providing each family Rs25,00,000 ( Rupees
Twenty-five Lakhs ) as Fixed Deposit for 200 years non refundable

especially to every females aging 18 and separately for their mothers.

Those females married at the age of 8 onward are granted the same.

They all will live happily with the Monthly Interest from The Central Bank

of India. After death transferring to next female kin and such agreement

should have to deliver to the CBI. Thereon they won’t face any problems

on food and yearly the CBI Interest will be increasing. Here free housing

depends to DONORS CAPITAL: Less means only for Ground floor con-

structions and if the amount is greater then 500 families on ordinary 25

Stroey new building. Police Station by half in additional on the Ground.

Floor and the other half for Super Market. In each Flat with small hall, 3

small bedrooms, dining hall, one kitchen and two small bathrooms. Free

for Medicals / Educations ( Local & Abroad ) plus Cochlear Implantation

for all hearing impaired. For all males jobs compulsorily adjusted which

    is marked in my brain.
    4) What you want?
Here my greatest success is to give me very strong CASH CAPITAL

as ” Fixed Deposit ” for 100 years non refundable into The Swiss
Bank in Switzerland or to The Swiss National Bank ( SNB ) in Trivandrum,
Kerala State, South India. All through the ” Monthly Interest ” I will be
doing the generosity in South India or plus the whole world if necessary.
Otherwise you may kindly send me ” Bank Check ” and I will deposit
here and beside never born as money mongering animal. Thereon
please kindly send CASH CAPITAL monthly because of my very tough
managements and this amount continuously joining into the ” Fixed
Deposit “. Prior to that have to do confirmation with the Managing
Director of the Bank. Following I am giving some important notification:
Those having Swiss Bank Account or whichever were offered complete
freedom to do anything around the world.

    5) Why they should help you?

I heard US Governments and Private Organizations giving away ” Billions

of Dollars ” to certain groups all over the world for doing the generosity
and most commonly inside USA. As a S/o War Veteran I am requesting
for my ” GENUINE DEMANDS ” with proofs.

    6) What the next step is?

I will inform to all my stewardship DONORS by sending:

    i) MONTHLY CONSUMERS SPENDING DATA SHEET.

ii) MONTHLY TEAM WORKERS SALARY SHEET.

iii) MONTHLY SWISS BANK INTEREST SHEET.

Here all DONORS does not need to face the straining and stressing

frequently. Above all I need DONORS unification then everything will

    move more smoothly.

Firstly I have to go for my Cochlear Implantation soon after getting your

    CASH CAPITAL
then continuing with the above mentioned criteria.
    Here the consumption
time will take three months because at present I
    am penniless. Now I am
sending you the photocopies of all the
    relevant documents of my late
    father’s SEPOY CERTIFICATE
and his Service Promotion Certificate issued
    from Malaysia together
with my new Indian Passport, Audio-grams Test
    plus new photo.

Looking forward to your humble response.

    Thanking you very much.

    Yours most obediently,
    Terry Pious Pereira.
